Summertime I
Summertime is an abstracted exploration of the internal self and the experience of being a mind inside a feminine body. This piece is a reflection on stillness in the face of uncontrollable forces, and the beauty that can emerge from chaos and uncertainty.

Melt
Melt is an exploration in the style of expressionism and surrealism, made in similar process to Summertime. Here I use acrylic red and orange wash as the underpainting which allows the pigment to run as it dries, creating a dripping and directional element to the painting. The proceeding layers build off of elements of the underpainting to create meaning and form out of coincidental abstraction.

Melt II
Melt II is an exploration in the style of expressionism and surrealism, made in similar process to Summertime. Like Melt I and the Summertime series, the underpainting informs the colors, figural elements and line quality of the following layers. These pieces are about building intuitively in an ambiguous environment.

Eyes shut I
An extension of the ideas behind Summertime, Eyes Shut is about self reflection, and the internal perceptions of our own bodies. What does it feel like to be in your body? In your mind?

Line drawing XII
This intertwined and disjointed composition of line and shape forms abstract interpretations of the female body confined within rigid triangles. The triangles are restrictive of line and color, yet within these spaces, color and line take hold and and thrive. Through this contradiction the artist explores the duality of femininity in a world dominated by men. It is vibrant and complicated, idealized and contained.

Gash
Gash shows a graphic and abstract depiction of ripped and sutured skin. The colors are mainly pinks and purples- colors often associated with femininity or “girly-ness.” In this mixed media piece I express a violent feminine energy; a brutal side of womanhood that is often ignored. Violence and femininity are too often seen as dichotomies, yet violence towards women is ubiquitous in our society. This work explores themes of brutality, rage, healing and self preservation.
